Per SCVA rules,
all teams participating in the MLKSpeakEasy must have one
competition agreement signed by the head coach of each team.
Please print the document below, signed it and mail it to 2156
Harbour Hts. Road San Diego, CA 92109. No MLK team will begin
play until there is a signed agreement on file with us.
MLKSPEAKEASY COMPETITION AGREEMENT
By participating in the MLKSpeakEasy all coaches, players and
families must acknowledge the following:
1. The MLK IS AN INVITATIONAL:
Teams participating in this year’s MLKSpeakEasy are not
guaranteed invitations to the 2013 MLKSpeakEasy. Over the years
this event has grown and shrunk due to limited court space. New
clubs have emerged and existing clubs have development multiple
affiliates so the invitation process has remained dynamic.
When it is all said and done the invitation process is driven by
three factors:
-
Friendliness
of Participants: This is essential because the tournament
must often change its format during the event (sometimes
even during playoffs) in order to do what is best for
everyone. This is also helpful because the MLK must rely on
unofficial referees due to the SoCal Boys JO Qualifier
played that same weekend. Participants must be able to
resolve issues without confrontation. Coaches that "get
along" have allowed the environment to remain upbeat even
when aspects of the event have fallen short of the mark.
-
Ease of
Administration: The MLK Staff does not want to invite clubs
that in the past have forced us to chase down rosters, entry
fees and players to do reffing assignments.
-
Competitiveness: The event aspires to attract teams that
will not get beat up by the MLK field. Landslide wins and
losses early in the season present a poor recruiting
platform and do little for the confidence of the teams
participating.
We thank you for
understanding that it is for these reasons that the invitations
list must change every year.
2. ALL RESULTS ARE UNOFFICIAL— Accordingly, no one may record
MLK results with (AES) Advanced Event Systems, TIVA,
SignUpToPlay, D4 or any other result tracking system or program.
Even though the 2012 MLK is an SCVA sanctioned event this
competition remains exclusively a scrimmage. Some coaches choose
to play line ups with this in mind. ANY REPORTING OF SOCAL
MLKSpeakEasy RESULTS WILL BE CONSTRUED AS FALSIFYING MATCH
OUTCOMES BY THE USAV. Participating coaches should view this
event as a teaching and/or recruiting device only.
3. PUBLISHED ROSTERS— All coaches were asked to provide rosters
that we could publish for visiting college coaches. Each club
was then given an opportunity to correct published information.
Materials will go to print on Friday (1/6) morning. PARENTS MUST
BE INFORMED THAT AFTER THAT TIME NO CORRECTIONS WILL BE MADE FOR
ANY REASON.
4. UNIFORMS— All players will wear their official uniforms with
the proper jersey numbers.
5. VIDEO RESTRICTION— Participating teams may video THEIR OWN
matches only. MLK coaches may NOT video peripheral matches. Due
to limited space, commercial videographers will not be allowed
this year.
6. REFFING ASSIGNMENTS and COURTESY— One paid official and one
reffing team will be assigned to officiate each match. Reffing
teams need only provide five players (one book, one down
official, one score board, and two line judges). Although there
will be a scripted reffing schedule, on occasion teams may be
asked to "cover ref" (reffing two courts or helping out with an
unassigned match) so that competition can be started on time or
to help a team make their departure flight.
